Barcelona’s search for a new right-back has taken them to Ligue 1 side Rennes, with veteran defender Hamari Traore emerging as a target for the Blaugrana.

The 30-year-old right-back is the captain of the Ligue 1 side and has been a regular in the side over the past five seasons since he joined from Reims in 2017. The Malian international has made 206 appearances for the club, bagging five goals and 31 assists.

Traore enjoyed a strong 2021/22 campaign, finishing with a tally of three goals and 11 assists from 33 appearances in Ligue 1. Given his proven pedigree in Ligue 1 and the fact that his contract expires next year, Barcelona have taken an interest in the 30-year-old.

And, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are ready to send an opening offer of around €3 million for Traore in the next 48 hours.

The Malian right-back is on gross wages of around €2 million per year at Rennes and the entire financial package to sign him would be easily affordable for the Blaugrana.

At 30, he might not be a long-term solution but Traore has a lot of experience under his belt and his leadership skills can also add value to the team. His attacking output last season would also indicate that he can be a good fit in Xavi’s system.

Barcelona’s primary target for the right-back position this summer is Villarreal’s Juan Foyth. However, signing the 24-year-old would be an expensive operation as his release clause stands at €42 million and will rise by 30% up to €54.6 million from tomorrow.

With chances of convincing Borussia Dortmund to part ways with Thomas Meunier also appearing bleak, a move for Hamari Traore might make a great deal of sense for the Blaugrana.

Whether the €3 million offer that the club are planning is enough to convince Rennes to part ways with Traore remains to be seen.
