Barcelona offered French forward for free; Atletico, PSG, Chelsea also in race

After being dumped out of the Champions League and Europa League in the same season, it is clear that Barcelona have a fair few holes to plug in their team.

The defensive midfield position is without any reinforcement, for example. It is also clear that Xavi likes the services of a left-footed centre-back in the team and that Marcos Alonso cannot be the guy he relies on for the mid to long-term.

Elsewhere, with Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati underperforming, the left-wing might become a spot of bother. Not to forget there is no real backup for Robert Lewandowski as the no. 9.

However, ahead of the summer transfer window, Barcelona seem to have identified the one player they can sign which will kill two birds with one stone. It is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.

The Frenchman is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2023, and has been offered to Barcelona, as per Mundo Deportivo’s front page.

The report suggests that Barça like his profile. They are one of the clubs, along Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Atletico Madrid that have been offered his signing by the player’s agent.

Gladbach’s director Roland Virkus confirmed that Thuram is unlikely to extend his contract, and would, in fact, leave as a free agent.

“We have to accept that there are bigger clubs where Marcus might go,” he said.

While there are other clubs in the race to sign Thuram, his father, Liliam Thuram, has made it clear that he prefers Barcelona.

“If you give me the contract, if you have it, I’ll sign it. The important thing is that Marcus continues to grow as a footballer. But, it would be a dream,” he said when asked about the possibility of his son signing for Barça.

Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the French forward’s signature, but the race is likely to go on until after the season gets over.
