Barcelona not optimistic about Dembele’s injury, could miss Manchester United clash – report

Barcelona continued their incredible winning run this weekend by securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Girona. The three points should help them consolidate their top spot in the league table.
But not everything was positive for Barça in this game as Ousmane Dembele, one of the star players in the team, was seen limping off around the first quarter of the game. He continued for a few minutes before being taken off at the 25th-minute mark.
Toni Juanmarti has dropped his report on the incident, with the journalist adding that the first impressions of Dembele’s injury did not look optimistic. He claims that it remains unclear how long he could be out for.
The same was confirmed by Xavi Hernandez shortly after the game. “Dembélé will go through medical tests tomorrow, but yes, I think he’s injured,” he said in the post-game presser (h/t BarçaTV+).
Building on this, Helena Condis is reporting that the Frenchman could be out of action for around three weeks and could thus miss the UEFA Europa League first-leg playoff against Manchester United on February 16.
Dembele’s potential absence through injury could be a major blow for Barcelona as the former Borussia Dortmund starlet has been the club’s second most important attacker this season after Robert Lewandowski.
While his absence could pave the way for someone like Raphinha and Ferran Torres to finally make a breakthrough in the first-team, it may have major consequences for Barça’s campaign, especially as the Catalans brace themselves for important games in La Liga and in the Europa League.
For now, though, it is too early to didact the true extent of Dembele’s injury. The winger is set to undergo medical tests before it can be determined whether or not he is fit to play again in the coming weeks. Fingers are crossed at Camp Nou.
