Barcelona winger picks up injury during Girona clash, asks to be subbed off

After going through an extended period with no major fitness issues, Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele seems to have sustained an injury during their La Liga clash against Girona FC.
The 25-year-old was part of the starting XI at Estadi Montilivi for the Catalan derby, forming the frontline along with Ansu Fati and Raphinha.
24 minutes into the game though, with the scoreline still at 0-0, the Frenchman, who has been in great form of late, was seen touching his quadriceps and soon indicated to the bench that he needed to come off.
Manager Xavi Hernandez sent on Pedri as he took off Dembele, with the former appearing to make his 100th appearance for Barcelona.
As for Dembele, the Catalans will be hoping that his condition is not serious. The 25-year-old had been in fine nick of late and had turned in one of his best performances for the club in the recent 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in Copa del Rey.
So far this season, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has scored eight goals and assisted seven more from 28 matches across all competitions.
This is Dembele’s first injury in over a year and the first one he has sustained with Xavi in charge. The manager was spotted interacting with the speedster on the touchline and fans will be hoping that the former Borussia Dortmund ace is able to make a swift comeback.
