There are several players at Barcelona who will be the target of a quickfire sale in January, with the club ready to continue the revamp of their squad.
The administration was able to get rid of a part of the ‘unwanted assets’ in the summer, with the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, Riqui Puig, among others leaving the club.
The next of the sales will likely include Memphis Depay, for starters, whose contract expires in the summer of 2023. Barça might be interested in selling new signing Franck Kessie, too, with reports linking him to Italian giants like Inter Milan and AC Milan.
However, according to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Kessie is not thinking about leaving Barcelona. The player is happy in the city and at the club and does not even fathom a move away six months into his transfer.
Kessie was also linked to a move to Fulham and Aston Villa, with reports claiming that the former were ready to shell out as much as €22 million for his services in the winter. Unai Emery’s side, meanwhile, were reportedly ready to offer €14 million.
Rumours have also suggested a possible swap deal between Barça and Villa involving Kessie, with Douglas Luiz going the other way.
The Ivorian midfielder is currently one of the very few Barcelona players that have not travelled to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In fact, he is nursing a hamstring injury he picked up during Barcelona’s 2-4 win over Viktoria Plzen in the final round of the Champions League group stages.
Even apart from the injuries, Kessie has had a tough time adjusting to life at Barcelona. He has constantly put in below-average performances, and as such, it is not surprising to see the club linked with several midfielders ahead of the January window.
This includes Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves and Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans – players who can play both, as central and defensive midfielders. Any move for them seems unlikely at this juncture.
