Barcelona monitoring the situation of Manchester United attacking duo – report

Barcelona’s financial situation dictates that they be on the lookout for any sort of opportunities in the transfer market to rope in top players in a cost-effective manner.

They managed to do so this past summer signing Ilkay Gundogan for free before landing Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on loan deals.

As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that the strategy to keep an eye on players with expiring contracts or those who have quality but are out of favour at their current clubs will continue next year as well.

Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial on the radars

The report goes on to point out some of the players that Barcelona have their sights on as part of their transfer strategy for 2024.

And among those on the La Liga champions’ radars are Manchester United attackers Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial.

Sancho is going through the worst phase of his career at Manchester United and has been completely frozen out of the first-team picture by manager Erik ten Hag due to disciplinary issues.

The 23-year-old, who joined the club for a fee close to €73 million, has not played for the Red Devils for over a month and appears likely to be on the way out as early as January.

AS Roma have shown an interest, while Barcelona are also understood to be monitoring his situation and could even consider a loan swoop in the winter.

Martial will be available for free

As for Martial, his career at Manchester United has never taken off in the way it was expected and he is not a regular starter at Old Trafford at this point.

The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and he would be available for free come summer. It must however be remembered that United have an option to extend it by another year.

Considering how the fortunes of Joao Felix and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, previously, turned around under Xavi at Barcelona, the Catalans might be looking to repeat something similar with Martial.

However, at this point, there is nothing concrete and it is just that Barcelona are aware of their current predicaments at Manchester United.
