On Thursday, MARCA reported that Barcelona had joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Valencia midfield prodigy Javi Guerra in the summer of 2023.

Now, corroborating those claims, Mundo Deportivo has published a new report stating that Barcelona are not only interested in signing the 19-year-old but have also established initial contacts with his agents over a possible move.

Guerra has been with Valencia since 2019 when he joined their youth setup from Villarreal CF. The 19-year-old has shown steady progress through the ranks at the club and is a regular for Los Che’s B team this season.

A midfielder who can essay multiple roles in the centre of the park, Guerra has been tipped for a bright future in the game. His potential and the fact that his contract with Valencia expires in 2023 has made him a coveted property in the market, with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid keen.

To that end, the report states that Barcelona have already established contacts with Guerra’s agents to explore the possibility of a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

However, Valencia are not ready to go down without a fight and have already tabled a renewal offer for the teenager. But, at the moment, there is still no agreement and the Blaugrana hope to capitalise on the situation.

The report highlights that Barça have good reports on the Valencia teenager.

Furthermore, the club have a good relationship with the agency that represents him, as they also happen to be the agents of Barcelona youngsters Ez Abde and Inaki Pena.

Talks about a contract renewal for Pena are underway and it is possible that Guerra’s name could have come up during those discussions.

But with Real Madrid also in the mix and Valencia also wanting to renew him, a deal is still far from being done for Guerra, who has so far made just one senior appearance for Los Che.
