Barcelona keen on signing Serie A midfielder on loan with a permanent buy option

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on Barcelona’s policy in the January transfer window. The club have lost two valuable players in the form of Gerard Pique and Memphis Depay, who recently joined Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.
Barça are trying to make up for it by signing at least one new player in this ongoing January transfer window. They are primarily considering a move for an attacking player, but they are open to signing a midfielder, with Marcelo Brozovic emerging as one of the options.
According to the report, Barça may try and sign the Inter Milan midfielder on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the club having the option to make the move permanent in the summer.
Brozovic, for his part, is prepared to join Barcelona as he looks to take the next step in his career after serving at Inter for years. The Croatian international has indeed featured in over 300 matches for the Nerazzurri and is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Serie A.
Brozovic’s ability to control the tempo in midfield, coupled with his experience makes him an appealing target for FC Barcelona.
Inter Milan, meanwhile, are also keen on adding fresh revenue to their books this January. Brozovic’s sale was viewed as a potential solution, especially with Barcelona interested.
However, Barça are facing a bit of competition from other clubs, not necessarily in the pursuit of Brozovic. Indeed, there are other players at Inter Milan, who could be offloaded this January, with PSG hunting for the services of Milan Skriniar while Denzel Dumfries has become a target for Premier League clubs.
This leaves Barcelona in a precarious position. The club simply do not have the funds to sign Brozovic on a permanent deal this month, meaning they have to convince Inter to release him on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy the midfielder permanently in the summer.
