Barcelona interested in signing 19-year-old Valencia midfield prodigy – report

Barcelona’s search for a new central midfielder has been well-documented lately, with the club not only keen on finding a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets, but also someone that can add more competition for Pedri and Gavi in the interior slots.
As part of their search, they have come across Javi Guerra. The 19-year-old is considered one of the most talented players to come out of the Valencia youth academy and is facing an uncertain future at the club.
A central midfielder by trade, Guerra currently plies his trade with Valencia’s reserve squad. But he did make his professional debut with Valencia last season. This time around, the youngster is yet to make an appearance in the first team.
According to Toni Juanmarti, Guerra is facing an uncertain future at Valencia. The teenage sensation’s current contract at the club expires at the end of the season. Barcelona are among the clubs interested in the services of the midfielder, and with passing second, there is growing optimism around the Barça camp.
A report from December had stated that Barcelona had even initiated contacts with Guerra over a potential move to Camp Nou in the summer. With the player potentially turning into a free agent in the summer, he has become an appealing target for the Catalans.
However, the Blaugrana are likely to face stiff competition from other clubs in the race to sign the Valencia starlet. Real Madrid are among the clubs interested in the midfielder. A prolonged stay at Valencia cannot be ruled out for Guerra either, although a lot will depend on how things transpire in the coming months.
Barcelona, for their part, are sure to keep close tabs on Guerra’s progress and situation at Valencia as we enter the second half of the campaign.
