According to La Ser, Barcelona have communicated to Alex Collado that he is going to be promoted to the first team next season. The 21-year-old attacker will finally fulfil one of his dreams as he has been playing for the Catalan club since the U11B team since he was ten years old. For the last two seasons, the youngster has been one of the key pieces of Barça B’s attack

Alex Collado was born in Sabadell and had started playing football when he was young. Gimnàstic Mercantil and Espanyol were two of his youth teams right before he switched for Barcelona at a young age, playing for the U11B team.

He escalated through all of the club teams and ended up debuting for Barça B in the 2017/18 season, while he was playing with the U19A team, with whom he won the UEFA Youth League that same year.

Collado debuted with the first team back in May 2019, in an away game at Celta where the Blaugranas won 0-2. He played 84 minutes for Ernesto Valverde’s team, as he substituted an injured Ousmane Dembélé.

Currently, Collado is one of the most essential pieces in García Pimienta’s Barça B team, as he has scored a total of six goals in thirteen games this season. He has also given an assist.

The news comes two days after the Sabadell attacker scored a magnificent goal for Barça B on their win against Llagostera (4-2) in Segunda División B (third tier in Spanish football).

This report also coincides with the electoral victory by Joan Laporta. The new president has repeated multiple times that they should get “La Masia” back, as developing and educating new young players has always been a distinctive trait of the Catalan club and has been lost during the last few seasons with Josep Maria Bartomeu as president.

We will see if once Collado is part of the first team, he gets enough opportunities to develop himself at the Camp Nou, considering the high competitiveness at the Catalan club. We have seen that some La Masia stars, like Riqui Puig, have not received many opportunities regardless of the manager.
