Memphis Depay is now on the verge of leaving Barcelona as the Dutchman and the La Liga giants have reached an agreement over the termination of his contract, claims Fabrizio Romano.

The Netherlands international joined the Blaugrana only a year ago and enjoyed a steady debut season, finishing as the club’s joint-top scorer with 13 goals to his name.

However, the signings of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha coupled with the return from injury of Ansu Fati meant that Depay had fallen well down the pecking order at Camp Nou and was told to find a new club for himself if he wished to play regularly.

Initially, Barça demanded a sum of €20 million for the Netherlands international. However, the forward had always been firm on his stance that if he were to leave the club this summer, it would only be as a free agent.

Having entered the final year of his contract at Camp Nou, Depay believed that he was owed the chance to leave on a free transfer as he had turned down bigger, more lucrative contracts to join Barcelona last summer.

Discussions between the club and his lawyers had been going on over the past couple of weeks to reach an agreement over the terms of a separation of ways.

And now, Romano has confirmed that Barcelona and Depay have struck an agreement to terminate the forward’s contract, enabling him to join Juventus as a free agent.

The Dutchman was reported to have already agreed a two-year deal with the Bianconeri. However, Romano claims that it might not be the case yet, with salary discussions still ongoing.

But with Barcelona now ready to terminate his contract things might speed up on that front as Depay edges closer to a departure from Camp Nou.
