It appears that contradicting reports are doing the rounds when it comes to Barcelona and their plans to sign a new right-back in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Just a while ago, Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona were considering the signing of a new right-back in the summer but it was not a priority for the club at this point as they felt they have enough options in Jules Kounde, Sergi Roberto, and Ronald Araujo.

However, now, Javi Miguel of AS, has come up with a fresh report, claiming that Barcelona have indeed prioritised the signing of a new right-back ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Neither Jules Kounde nor Sergi Roberto are natural full-backs and the former’s display against Rayo Vallecano showed that Barça can do with improvements in the position.

Thus, as per Javi Miguel, the Blaugrana have decided to make it a priority to sign a new right-back in the summer. And, as it has been reported multiple times in the past, Villarreal ace Juan Foyth remains the primary target for the La Liga leaders.

The 25-year-old is understood to be Xavi’s preferred option to strengthen the right-back position and the manager is understood to have even asked the club to make extra efforts to try and sign the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

However, Foyth’s valuation makes the operation complicated. The Argentine has a release clause in his contract worth around €54 million and Villarreal have no intentions of accepting any fee lower than that figure for the Argentine international.

Barcelona, though, are not in a position to pay such a high figure for the right-back this summer, given their Financial Fair Play situation and the need to strengthen other areas of the pitch as well.

Hence, it has been reported that Foyth and his entourage have almost given up any hope of joining Barcelona this summer.

But with the Catalans considering Foyth a priority signing, it will be interesting to see if they are ready to make extra efforts to sign him or decide to look for low-cost alternatives.
