According to Mundo Deportivo, Luuk de Jong’s loan switch to Cadiz is now in jeopardy as it appears that the Dutch striker has rather decided to take a better challenge instead.

Barcelona are aware of the fact that they will not have the striker in their ranks for the second half of the season. But the evident option de Jong has is not as lucrative as he is looking for.

Cadiz, who are 19th in the league, are looking to salvage something positive out of a rather gloomy season by making de Jong their primary target.

However, the 31-year-old has ruled out the option as his aim is to join a better team. In that regard, Turkish side Besiktas has emerged as a potential destination alongside Fenerbahce.

Cadiz head coach Alvaro Cervera is well aware of all the happenings. Ahead of his team’s home game against Sevilla, he admitted that the club is in no position to attract players like de Jong.

“This year the situation of the market is more complicated because we are way down below in the table and the players do not like to come to teams like this,” Cervera said ahead of the match.

Although Besiktas have struggles of their own, the situation is not as bad as Cadiz. The team from Turkey is currently seventh in the standings with just 28 points after 19 games.

De Jong, who scored the winner against Mallorca, has always maintained a good rapport with Xavi, but the arrival of Ferran Torres coupled with the returns of Ansu Fati and Memphis Depay will once again leave the striker with a limited role. All this will leave Barcelona with a lot on the plate, meaning that his departure is inevitable.

As things stand, Luuk de Jong is still a Barcelona player, albeit on loan from Sevilla and the next hours will be crucial to know his future.
