After missing over a month of footballing action, Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto is on the verge of making a return from injury.

The 31-year-old utility man suffered an injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg in mid-October, due to which he has gone on to miss over five weeks of action.

Medical clearance on the horizon

Now, though, SPORT is reporting that Roberto is all set to return to the squad list for this week’s UEFA Champions League clash against FC Porto.

The 31-year-old versatile right-back has already missed the last seven games in a row for the Blaugrana due to the aforementioned muscle injury.

Barça’s first captain will train with the group today and all signs point towards him receiving a medical clearance for the midweek encounter.

As the team gears up to face a vital clash in the Champions League, especially following their defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this month, Roberto’s return will be a welcome one.

It provides Xavi with added options at right-back and in midfield, more so with Gavi unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.

Marc Casado to be available as well

Another boost for Xavi for the midweek encounter will be the availability of young midfielder Marc Casado.

The Barça Atletic captain was unavailable against Rayo Vallecano this weekend as he was serving a suspension with the reserve team, which made him ineligible to feature for the senior setup as well.

But, he will be available for the Champions League clash and will replace Unai Hernandez on the squad list, with the latter not registered for the competition.
