Fighting vigorously for the acquisition of a high-profile defensive midfielder, Barcelona have been tailing Marcelo Brozovic for a while now, as the Croatian is seen as a top commodity in the market.

Barça’s attempts to sign the Inter Milan captain have far from been a walk in the park, as Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr are offering heavy competition in the race for his signature.

While Inter reached an agreement over the transfer of the 30-year-old with Al Nassr, Brozovic’s insistence to wait out a potential move to Barcelona has kept the Catalans in the running.

However, despite the player not giving his final confirmation to the Saudi Arabian giants, as per journalist Luis F Rojo, Barça are struggling to match Inter Milan’s asking price for Brozovic. So if the Nerazzurri do not lower their asking price, a deal will be very difficult.

With Al Nassr paying an estimated fee of around €23 million to the Italian club, Barcelona are finding difficulties raising the finances to meet that amount.

Al Nassr are offering Brozovic a contract worth €20 million per season, but personal terms, at the moment, do not appear to be the biggest issue for the Blaugrana outfit.

Owing to minimal departures, Barcelona have a great deal of work to carry out before they can meet Inter’s asking price demands.

Barcelona’s continuous financial problems prevent the club from being able to pay any premium fee, unless they are able to balance their books by selling unwanted figures.

As such, if the Nerazzurri do not reduce their asking price, acquiring the Croat will simply be a far-fetched dream.

Barcelona are now looking at other short-term alternatives, which include the likes of Dani Parejo and Oriol Romeu. As for Brozovic, unless any concessions are made in the price tag, he will not be recruited.
