Barcelona are eyeing a summer swoop for Chelsea left-back: Fabrizio Romano

Barcelona are in the market for a new left-back in the upcoming summer transfer window. It appears Xavi Hernandez wants to sign a new deputy for Jordi Alba, who can initially serve as the backup for the Spaniard before eventually replacing him in the years to come.
The Catalans have been linked with a move for a multitude of left-backs through Europe, including Angelino, Alex Moreno, Nicolas Tagliafico and Jose Gaya, among many others.
Javi Galan is a name that particularly stands out among the rest, with the left-back being rated highly by Xavi. However, the club could be put off by Celta Vigo’s reported €18 million price tag, potentially forcing them to consider other alternatives in the market.
Fabrizio Romano has now offered an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of a new left-back, shedding light on the club’s interest in Marcos Alonso.
The reliable transfer expert suggests the Chelsea star is one of three or four options Barça are targeting in the coming summer. The Catalans are well informed on Alonso’s situation, with the Spaniard’s current deal at Stamford Bridge expiring at the end of next season.
Barcelona have been no stranger when it comes to targeting Chelsea defenders this year. They are expected to bring in Andreas Christensen on a Bosman deal in the summer.
Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta were both linked with a move as well, but it appears neither of them is coming to Camp Nou this summer.
But Barça could yet get their hands on another Chelsea defender in the form of Alonso. The Spaniard is currently serving as an understudy to Ben Chilwell under Thomas Tuchel, with many expecting him to depart at the end of the season.
With over 200 competitive appearances for Chelsea, Alonso brings a wealth of experience and could be an ideal alternative for Alba.
The Blues, though, will be apprehensive about losing the Spaniard, having already sanctioned the exits of Rudiger and Christensen in the coming season.
