Barcelona are exploring multiple options in the ongoing January transfer to not only strengthen the squad but also reduce the salary budget.

One of the sporting solutions they had come up with was to conduct a direct swap deal between Franck Kessie and Marcelo Brozovic. The Ivorian midfielder has struggled at Camp Nou since joining the club in the summer, and it appears the club are open to offloading him.

However, due to the delicate nature of the January transfer window, the swap deal is not a possibility this month.

But according to a report from SPORT, Barcelona nor Inter Milan have lost sight of the swap deal and could take it up once again at the end of the season.

Barça are aware of the fact that Kessie has no desire to quit just yet. He is ready to fight for his place in the team, even though the midfielder has fallen out of favour in Xavi’s setup. But if he continues to struggle with game-time during the remainder of the campaign, a summer exit could be on the cards.

That is where the swap deal could once again be considered. Inter Milan, for their part, have promised Barcelona to study the offer, though they feel the valuation of Kessie and Brozovic is not equal. They expect the Catalans to offer another player in exchange or some additional value to the deal.

While the exact details of the deal can be meted out later in the summer, the two clubs are certainly open to the exchange. However, the deal does depend on a multitude of factors, including Kessie’s own decision and whether or not he is open to joining Inter, after playing for arch-rivals AC Milan for years.
