The long hunt for Sergio Busquets’ replacement at Barcelona stands testament to how special the player is. The market for defensive midfielders is very narrow, and players who can claim to perfectly replace the Spaniard can be counted on fingers.

Marcelo Brozovic is one such star who possesses the capability of filling the void that Busquets would leave at Barcelona if he departs. Inter Milan have held their gem very close in recent years, but are now reportedly prepared to let him go.

Talks of a possible Franck Kessie-Brozovic swap have been making the headlines in Catalonia over the past week. While the talks are in the preliminary stages, Mundo Deportivo brings to light some facts about the stance of both clubs.

Inter Milan would be happy to do business with Barcelona over the aforementioned swap transaction. However, the Nerazzurri value the midfielder higher than Kessie and ask for money in addition to Ivory Coast International.

Barcelona disagree with Inter’s evaluation of the two players’ value, especially with Kessie being four years younger than Brozovic.

Xavi would welcome the midfielder with open arms and sees him as an able reinforcement for the defensive midfield. While Brozovic may not be as young a player as Barcelona would have wished of Busquets’ successor, he does give them a few extra years to look for the next cog.

As it stands, the club are happy with Kessie and his work ethic. Xavi will continue to trust him as long as he dons the garnet-and-blue colours but a sale would be the best solution for all parties involved.

The summer signing has only started two games in La Liga for Barcelona this season and is yet to contribute to a goal.
