Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder have had no contact, player keen on new Blues contract

Earlier this month, there were a lot of reports doing the rounds that Chelsea midfielder Jorginho had emerged on Barcelona’s radar as a possible replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Furthermore, there were also claims that the Italian international had offered himself to Barcelona over a possible free transfer next summer when his contract expired.

However, as per a fresh update from Relevo, there has been absolutely zero contact between Barcelona and Jorginho over any potential transfer. Furthermore, it is claimed that the midfielder is focused on signing a new contract with Chelsea.

Jorginho has been a mainstay in the Chelsea lineup for four years now and has been a key cog in the success that they have achieved in recent seasons. He was also an integral part of the Italian national team that won the UEFA Euro 2020 last year in England.

A seasoned campaigner with loads of experience at the highest level, it is natural for him to have been linked with Barcelona, who will be bidding goodbye to their captain Busquets at the end of the ongoing campaign when his contract expires.

However, as per Relevo, there seems to be nothing to these claims as Jorginho is reportedly intent on furthering his stay at Stamford Bridge and is hoping to earn a new contract from Chelsea.

As for Barcelona, they have narrowed in on Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad as their primary target to replace Busquets at the base of their midfield unit. Manager Xavi Hernandez is said to be an admirer of the 23-year-old and wants him at Spotify Camp Nou.
