Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are among five clubs keeping tabs on the situation of Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, reports Manchester Evening News.

The Portuguese international joined the Red Devils back in 2018 but has only become the first-choice right-back at Old Trafford over the past year or so.

Having been handed the role ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka by interim manager Ralf Rangnick last season, he has retained his first-choice position under new boss Erik ten Hag and made a strong impression.

Dalot has been in impressive form for the Portugal national team as well, catching the eye of the onlookers with his displays in the recent international break.

With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2023, a number of top clubs have taken an interest in the 23-year-old defender.

Indeed, as per the report, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus and AS Roma are all keeping a close watch on the Portuguese right-back and his form.

Barcelona’s need for a new right-back does not need any explanation. Both Sergi Roberto and Hector Bellerin will be out of contract next summer and the Catalans are ready to make an investment in one or two players in the position.

Dalot is a player that Barcelona were interested in the summer as well, but it led to nothing. And while they have retained their interest in the Manchester United ace, a move next year could also be difficult.

That is because the report states that the Premier League giants plan to trigger the one-year extension option in Dalot’s contract before January, which would effectively tie him up until 2024.

Furthermore, it is claimed that the player himself is hoping to sign a new long-term deal at Manchester United.
