Barcelona set to spend big on ‘one or two’ right-backs next summer – report
While Barcelona addressed a number of their problem areas in the summer with aplomb, the same cannot be said for the right-back position.
Despite Hector Bellerin’s arrival from Real Betis, he remains the club’s only natural option to fulfil the role.
Jules Kounde, who is naturally the better defender has deputised at right-back so far and while he has stepped up to the plate, it remains unfamiliar territory for the former Sevilla centre-back.
With Sergino Dest also being allowed to join AC Milan, things look far from encouraging at right-back for Xavi’s men. However, it has been revealed that the Catalan giants are well aware of the fact that it remains a priority position and plan to find a solution.
According to the latest information provided by Gerard Romero, Barcelona’s biggest priority in the summer of 2023 is to finally solve their right-back problem.
With Bellerin potentially set to return to Betis and Roberto looking destined to depart the club next season, the club are eyeing one or maybe even two right-backs and will spend a lavish sum to fulfil their requirements.
As witnessed in the transfer window ahead of the 2022/23 season, Barça did not shy away from spending a pretty penny to make the club competitive again.
So much so that it has been reported in recent days that Real Madrid believe a total in excess of 90 points will be needed to finish above Barcelona as La Liga champions this time around.
However, a much-improved squad still has a hole in it at right-back, which remains undeniable.
As names such as Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot and AS Monaco’s Vanderson have been linked to the club, only time will tell how Barcelona reinforce the position.
