Barcelona are facing stiff competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan in pursuit of signing Ajax’s 24-year-old full-back Noussair Mazraoui, claims transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.

Like several top players across the continent, Mazraoui’s ongoing deal with the Eredivisie side runs out at the end of the season,, and the player had already expressed his desire to leave on a free transfer months ago.

The ongoing events perfectly suit Barcelona’s agenda as the team is clearly working on bringing players who can either come at a lower price or better if they are signed as a free agent.

As Romano quotes, nothing has been agreed so far while the clubs chasing his signature are yet to present formal offers. This means the race is more or less open, but it is believed that the player will, in fact, take his time before deciding on his new club.

While it’s clear that the player wants to experience top-level football, he has no shortage of suitors whatsoever. However, at 24 years of age, the full-back would want regular first-team minutes; something that the aforementioned teams are well placed to offer.

At Milan, they currently have Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi and Pierre Kalulu for the right-back role. Here, it’s important to note that Florenzi is only a loanee while Kalulu has been better as a centre-half instead. This effectively gives them the space to sign a right-back in the summer.

As far as Dortmund are concerned, their preferred right-back, Thomas Meunier, has ironically attracted interest from Barcelona, and if the Cule management does decide to go with the Belgian, the Bundesliga side will have to look for a replacement.

Barcelona, on the other hand, can present a better proposal altogether, with Sergino Dest looking more likely to leave in the summer. Furthermore, Dani Alves has only been signed as a cover, while Sergi Roberto is likely to exit the club on a Bosman move.

This leaves the Catalan club short-handed at the right-back spot, meaning that Mazraoui can walk into the first team right away.
