Frenkie de Jong’s at Barcelona future has become a much-discussed topic in recent months.

The 24-year-old is in his third full season with the Catalan giants but is yet to find his niche in this Barça setup. While his quality is there for all too see, the Dutchman has not been consistent enough while there have also been questions asked over his big-game pedigree.

Early in Xavi Hernandez’s tenure, the former AFC Ajax man looked a bit of a misfit as well, leading to increased speculations over his future. However, things have been improving in recent weeks and it seems like the midfielder is keen on putting all the rumours to bed.

As reported by SPORT, de Jong has decided to stay put at Barcelona and achieve success at the club despite having several ‘important offers’ on the table.

The midfield maestro understands that there is increased competition in the midfield department with the emergence of youngsters like Gavi, Pedri and Nico Gonzalez who have made a huge impact in a short time.

But de Jong enjoys the faith of the manager and has been repaying it with improved performances of late.

There has been strong interest from German champions Bayern Munich, while Liverpool have also been linked. But Barcelona have always backed the midfielder to grow into an integral part of the first team at Camp Nou.

De Jong’s current contract with the Catalan heavyweights runs until the summer of 2026. It also comes up with a massive release clause worth €400 million.

As things stand, the midfielder, who arrived from Ajax in 2019, is happy with his situation and is prepared to fight and improve his performances for the Blaugrana. So, an exit in the summer seems like an unlikely prospect for the moment.
