Xavi has designed specific training plan for veteran Barcelona midfielder

Barcelona are about to embark on a gruelling October schedule that will see them play out some of the most important fixtures, including games against Inter Milan and arch-rivals Real Madrid.

In the midst of a busy schedule, it will be integral for Barcelona to keep all their players fit and ready for action. The club did not enjoy the best of starts, though, with no less than four players picking up injuries during the international break.

Memphis Depay has been ruled out for a month while Ronald Araujo may undergo surgery, with a chance of missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

In light of all this, Barcelona are take on cautious measures to preserve the fitness of their star players. And on that note, coach Xavi Hernandez has designed a specific training plan for one of the team’s star performers, in the form of Sergio Busquets, reports La Portera de Nunez.

The ageing midfielder is the only one among the four Barcelona team captains, who has been able to maintain his prominence in the first team. The Spaniard is indeed an indispensable part of the Barcelona midfield and his presence could go a long way in helping the club navigate through the coming months.

However, at the age of 34, Busquets has had issues with his lack of mobility and fitness lately. As such, Xavi has laid down special training and recovery plan for the midfielder, in an attempt to help him remain fit for the coming months.

This may involve Busquets being given more rests, which, in turn, could lead to more action for Frenkie de Jong, who is likely to return in contention ahead of Barcelona’s upcoming Champions League affair against Inter Milan.

Busquets himself may welcome the change in training scheme as it will help him retain his fitness, especially with the FIFA World Cup just around the corner.
