With Marco Asensio set to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, Mundo Deportivo’s Roger Torello is reporting that the Spanish international has a lot of admirers at FC Barcelona.

Asensio had been repeatedly linked with a move to Barça in the past, especially due to the fact that his agent, Jorge Mendes, has very close ties with club president Joan Laporta.

Beyond that, the report states that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez and the technical staff at the club like the 27-year-old winger a lot.

The La Liga champions believe that Asensio’s profile would be a 100% fit at Barcelona and would elevate the overall quality of the team and help them compete better in Europe moving forward.

However, despite their admiration and the presence of Mendes, the Catalan giants are not considering making a play for his signing at this moment.

For starters, Barça would have to battle other European giants such as PSG as well as some Premier League teams to sign Asensio. Given their delicate Financial Fair Play situation, proposing a contract offer that could compete with those from the other suitors could be difficult.

However, more importantly, the report states that Barcelona wish to avoid getting into a ‘war’ with Real Madrid by making a move for Asensio, even though he will be a free agent.

The Blaugrana believe that the Spanish capital club could perceive it as an offense if they moved for the 27-year-old winger right after he left the Santiago Bernabeu.

It could lead to the risk of Real Madrid bidding hard for one of Barcelona’s star players in the future, a scenario that the club wish to avoid.

As such, even though they like Asensio a lot, a move for the soon-to-be free agent is not on the agenda at Barcelona this summer.
