Right from the first whistle, Barcelona’s control over Tuesday night’s fixture was evident, although frustrations were high when Papu Gomez put Sevilla 1-0 up after a sharp corner routine, which would end up being Sevilla’s only shot on target all night. Barcelona levelled things up before half-time with an incredible header from Ronald Araújo, which ensured the Catalans did have something to show for their dominant opening period.

Despite a red card to Jules Koundé, and more Barca pressure and chances, there was no way through for Xavi’s side, who have to settle for a point at the Sánchez Pizjuán. The sensations are positive however, and the team is beginning to show concrete signs of development under Xavi, with a hope that 2022 will be a huge year in the rebirth of FC Barcelona.
