Watch: Bayern Munich vs Barcelona, Match Preview
This is it for Barcelona. It’s Matchday six of the Champions League Group Stages, as Barcelona take on one of the best teams in Europe, Bayern Munich. It feels like a miracle is needed to progress, but Xavi’s Barcelona shouldn’t expect one, and should instead come with a plan.
Determining Barcelona’s fate, and whether it will be Champions League or Europa League, could also be in the hands of Dynamo Kyiv, who know that if they get anything out of their game against Benfica, will ensure Barcelona passage to the next round.
Bayern Munich, despite already being qualified for the Round of 16 of the Champions League, are not expected to rotate, as Julian Nagelsmann is set to go full strength and full throttle in what will be an empty Allianz Arena. The likes of Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski are expected to start, whereas Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry will all miss out.
Barcelona are in need of not a miracle, but an expertly put together tactical plan to outsmart Bayern on Wednesday night. Xavi will be looking for solutions, and is likely to turn to Ousmane Dembélé to lead Barcelona’s attack. Barcelona are also expected to set up in a back three, and youngsters Nico González and Pablo Gavi are set to start.
