Vitor Roque speaks after first Barcelona goal in 1-0 win against Osasuna: “Dream come true”

Vitor Roque’s first goal in the garnet-and-blue helped Barcelona scrape to a 1-0 win past Osasuna on Wednesday night. Playing at Montjuic for the first time since their 5-3 defeat to Villarreal, the Catalans did not have it easy by any means, but they held on and now remain eight points behind leaders Girona.

The first half from Barcelona was far from convincing, especially considering that many expected the players to step up after Xavi’s drastic announcement earlier in the week. Nevertheless, the performance improved after the break with the new signing making the difference.

Pedri spoke to the media after the team’s narrow win over Osasuna, once again reiterating the team’s faith in Xavi and the impact the manager has had on them.

“Xavi helped us all and now we have to give everything for him until the end.”

He went on to detail how it was punishing to be the manager of Barcelona purely from a pressure point of view and how the high standards at the club were responsible for the same.

“Being the Barça coach must be complicated, when you fail you get hit, but we are in the best club in the world, you have to accept criticism when things don’t work out.”

Commenting on the goalscorer on the night, Vitor Roque, Pedri said,

“Vitor Roque made a great effort during the match, in addition to being a scorer. He will help us a lot.”

Finally, the Canary Islander gave his two cents on the league title race and whether or not he felt the team still had a chance to defend their title.

“La Liga is complicated, but we went through worse things and came back. We will try to win every match and wait for the competing teams to drop points.”

Vitor Roque, the man of the match, was the next player to face the press. Ecstatic after scoring his first goal for Barcelona, the youngster did not hold back on his excitement in front of the cameras.

“I’m very happy for my first goal, but especially because that goal gave us the 3 points. This is a dream come true, I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” he said about the special night he enjoyed.

The former Athletico Paranaense star then elaborated on the differences between the Brazilian and Spanish leagues, the style and pace of the games.

“Here football is faster than in Brazil. What I need is to be more focused throughout the match.”

Finally, the youngster revealed the state of the dressing room after Xavi’s announcement, saying,

“The dressing room is good, despite Xavi’s decision to leave.”
