Memphis Depay is one of the Barcelona players who are facing the prospect of a potential departure from Camp Nou in the upcoming January transfer window.

The attacker has completely fallen out of favour under Xavi Hernandez, with the club desperately keen on reducing their wage bill. Depay, therefore, is one of the players in contention to be sacrificed after the turn of the year.

The Dutchman has had no shortage of options either, with a host of clubs already citing their desire to snap him up in the winter transfer window. Manchester United and Seville are among the clubs to consider a move for the attacker.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Galatasaray are the most recent club to enter the race. The Turkish giants are aware of the difficulties they are going to face in convincing the Barcelona forward to move to Istanbul in January, but they are wiling to make a move.

The report suggests that Galatasaray have made initial contacts and enquired about the prospects of the attacker’s potential move to Turkey. But the transfer saga is far from over.

This is because Depay has appeared very reluctant in sealing an early exit from Barcelona. He has refused to accept most of the offers and is holding out for a club that can offer him Champions League football and a lucrative salary package.

Barcelona, for their part, would prefer a winter exit for the Dutchman. They are willing to hand him a letter of freedom for the attacker, whose current deal at the club expires at the end of the season.

However, there might not be any conclusive update on Depay’s future until the end of the World Cup, where he is expected to play a critical role for his country’s attacking unit.
