Three reasons why Messi does not want to extend his contract with PSG – report

In an interesting turn of events, Gerard Romero has broken the news that Lionel Messi is closer to leaving PSG than he is to to extending his contract.
This comes on the back of reports that had pretty much confirmed that the Argentine would end up staying in Paris after winning the World Cup. In fact, it was suggested that Messi had reached ‘complete verbal agreement’ with the Ligue 1 outfit, and the renewal was a matter of days.
However, it seems all is not pleasant in the French capital. According to Sergio A. Gonzalez, there are three particular reasons why Messi wants to leave PSG.
Relationship with fans and media
Last season, while going through a particularly tough phase under Mauricio Pochettino, Lionel Messi and Neymar were booed by PSG fans as the league leaders took on Bordeaux. Kylian Mbappe, on the other hand, was applauded and cheered, and deservedly so.
This, for any player, though, would be enough to spoil the relationship with the fans. Gareth Bale’s case with Real Madrid can be recalled on this occasion, where the Welsh international failed to gain his best form after almost completely disconnecting from the fans.
The French media has not been kind to Leo, either. Last season, he was bashed for poor performances, and this time around, him and Argentina are targetted for the World Cup final win against France.
Relationship with Galtier
PSG coach Christopher Galtier has done incredibly well to accommodate all three of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe in the starting XI, unlike Mauricio Pochettino.
He is also constantly in praise of Leo, but the report suggests that he does not enjoy a good relationship with Galtier.
And with the coach likely to stay beyond his current contract, Messi moving away could be the best move for him.
Mbappe’s control at the club
Kylian Mbappe was close to joining Real Madrid in the summer, but ended up extending his contract with PSG after their blockbuster renewal offer. In doing so, he gained a lot of player power at the club.
Reports have suggested that the World Cup winner has the power to control transfers – both in, and out, which has not gone down well with the rest of the players.
Therefore, Messi wants to leave the club to save himself the trouble of tussling with Mbappe in the future.
