Barcelona began a difficult week with a convincing 4-0 win over Osasuna. However, the challenges only get stiffer with every passing day.

The Catalans face Galatasaray in a crucial away fixture midweek where nothing less than a win will suffice. Three days later, they are up against a Real Madrid side who are still in the euphoria of their win over PSG.

At this stage, Xavi will take every ounce of help and luck offered to him. As it seems, the Barcelona manager may be receiving some major boosts ahead of El Clasico.

According to reports from Fernando Palomi of ESPN, Karim Benzema, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo all left the field injured during their 0-3 win over Mallorca. That places them at risk of missing Sunday’s clash against Barcelona.

Benzema’s absence especially could prove to be the key that unlocks the win for Barça. The Frenchman has scored 22 goals and given 11 assists in the league this season and is inarguably one of the best players in the continent.

Mendy’s like-for-like replacement is Marcelo, who has been far from convincing in the little minutes he’s received. Nacho could be plugged in that role but in a far more defensive setup.

As for Rodrygo, Marco Asensio has been preferred at right-wing over him all season, but the Brazilian provides immense work-rate which could be key against Barça.

The Catalans’ Clasico record over the past three years has been far from impressive. This year too, they have lost to Real Madrid twice. Yet, there is something encouraging about the meeting scheduled for the weekend.

In the past month, Barcelona have regained an identity. The team has begun creating and finishing chances with ease with relative solidity in defence. After a 2-3 loss in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals, this could be Xavi’s opportunity to get revenge.
