The 2022/23 campaign is already up and running for Barcelona, who remain busy in the transfer market. The club are working ’round the clock to finalise their squad for the season ahead, as we approach the final week of the summer transfer window.
Amid all the speculations over potential new signings such as Juan Foyth, Bernardo Silva and even Hector Bellerin, there are players who are staring at the possibility of a move away from Camp Nou.
One of the potential hints about the players leaving the club in this final week of August could come from Barcelona’s team selection over the past couple of matches.
Over the last few matches against Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad respectively, there has been a total of three players who have been selected in both the league matches but have not featured in a single minute.
The three players in question are Gerard Pique, Miralem Pjanic and Memphis Depay. While one can be forgiven for thinking that Pique would not be leaving Camp Nou anytime soon, both Depay and Pjanic are possibly staring at an uncertain week ahead.
Depay has already been heavily linked with a move to Juventus. In fact, the Dutchman’s move to Turin could only be a matter of time, with the player’s representative recently in Italy to finalise a personal agreement with the club.
Pjanic, on the other hand, was thought to be a potential backup for Sergio Busquets, especially after the departure of Nico. However, the Bosnian did not feature even in the game against Sociedad, even though Busquets was suspended.
This raises questions about his role at the club. However, it will be extremely difficult for Barcelona to find a suitor for the former AS Roma starlet, this late in the market, especially given how the player has endured a rapid fall from grace over the past couple of years.
