Just a few minutes into the game against Sevilla, Barcelona have been dealt a setback as captain and midfielder Sergio Busquets has been taken off with an injury.

The veteran superstar was part of the starting XI that Xavi fielded against Jorge Sampaoli’s men, starting alongside Frenkie de Jong and Pedri in midfield.

However, only three minutes into the contest, the midfielder seemed to have hurt his ankle after a coming-together with Youssef En-Nesyri, with the Moroccan stepping on the Barcelona skipper. Busquets asked for a substitution seconds later as he was unable to continue.

Franck Kessie, who has not seen a lot of minutes in La Liga, was sent on by Xavi, with Busquets hobbling off the pitch.

This comes as a serious blow for Barcelona considering that Busquets had been hitting top form in recent matches.

With Ousmane Dembele already out with an injury, losing another important player ahead of a busy run with tough fixtures could become an issue for the La Liga leaders.

Xavi will thus hope that his captain, whose future beyond the current season is still uncertain, has not picked up a serious injury and will return to action in no time.

Including today’s game, Busquets has played 27 matches across all competitions and has registered one assist in that period.

With crucial games against Villarreal and Manchester United coming up next, fans will be hoping that the 34-year-old will be able to make a quick recovery.
