Rival watch: Inter Milan midfield superstar likely to miss Barcelona encounters

Barcelona have endured tough luck during the ongoing international break so far, with the club being dealt with the injury of multiple star players including Ronald Araujo.

A slew of injuries just before the gruelling October schedule could turn out to be a major problem for the Catalans in their bid to keep up with the domestic title race, along with the UEFA Champions League.

However, Barcelona have been handed a rare positive lately, with Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic being ruled out for a considerable period, owing to an adductor injury, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The midfielder is set to be sidelined for at least three to four weeks, which means he will miss out on the upcoming Champions League matches against Barcelona. Since the two teams are set to face on consecutive occasions, he is likely to be unavailable for both matches.

This should serve as a major positive for Barcelona, who are in desperate need of a win against Inter Milan, in their quest to seal a top-two finish in the group.

The Catalans had started the Champions League campaign with a resounding 5-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen. But they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, meaning the result of the two matches against Inter Milan could go a long way in shaping their fate in the group stages.

The absence of a star midfielder like Brozovic, to that end, should greatly benefit Barcelona, who possess excellent technical quality in the middle of the park and have what it takes to dominate the Nerazzurri.

Barcelona and Inter Milan are slated to meet on October 4, at San Siro, before the Italians travel to Camp Nou a week later, in the reverse fixture.
