Despite a bucketload of talent, Riqui Puig never succeeded at Barcelona, and is now on his way out of the club. He is set to join LA Galaxy on a three-year deal, becoming one of MLS’ franchise player.

During his time in Catalonia, there was a lot of speculation about why coaches never wanted to give him regular minutes. There were obviously some gaping holes in his game, namely defensive positioning, but none that could not be solved with regular game time.

As such, fans started questioning his character. There were also briefly reports last season of a mole in a dressing room, thought to be Riqui, with no substantial proof, though.

Well, it seems there might have been some truth to the bad apple theory. Joan Fontes has come forth with some voice clips, apparently from Riqui’s driving classes in February this year, where he is being far from courteous.

He speaks on Ferran Torres, saying “Even Guardiola did not want him. He played 12 matches last year.”

Further, Riqui is also heard talking about his own future at the club, as he explains why he has not left yet. He does claim to have offers from two top sides, though.

“I had offers from Chelsea and Milan. I did not leave because I’m fine here at Barcelona. They pay you double the money, but you’re lonely there,” he says.

There is also an audio clip where he is talking about Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona, but did not dare foul-mouth him.

“It is normal that Messi reacts like that when leaving Barcelona. He was at the club since he was 14 years old.”
