As the competition for the 2020/21 La Liga charge gets more intense, Barcelona have a different set of eyes as June approaches. The first of them being the renewal of Lionel Messi, who becomes a free agent in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain have their eyes set on the Argentine and will go to the ends of the earth to make the transfer come true.

ESPN Argentina, however, reports that Messi will continue at the club for two more seasons. He was denied a move out of Barcelona in 2020 by Josep Bartomeu, who blocked his move to Manchester City. Since then, however, Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race and have become the only team in the running for the six-time Ballon d’Or’s signature. Meanwhile, the Paris outfit is also looking to renew Neymar’s contract.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Barcelona since he left the club in 2017. However, any move has failed to come to fruition. Neymar did not help his case, either, admitting that his biggest desire was to share the pitch with Lionel Messi again. Now, Barcelona seem to be hot on his trails in an attempt to bring him to the club and reunite him with Leo, also claimed by ESPN.

Signing Neymar will be a huge issue for the club, though. He is bound to cost a truck-load of money despite being on his last year of contract with PSG. Not to mention that, on paper, the team lacks several players which are of priority more than what Neymar brings to the table. For starters, the lack of a natural number 9 has haunted several games for Barça, including what could have been an incredible comeback win against PSG.

Moreover, the Blaugranas have been subject to several defensive errors throughout the course of the season. Eric Garcia is bound to join the club on a free transfer, but it seems unlikely that he will be the solution to all their problems. Joan Laporta must prioritise what the club needs most, and Neymar is certainly not on that list.
