What is considered an impossible dream for so many football fans also weighs on the minds of people running the biggest clubs in the world. Such is the case, according to a new report from Diario AS, suggesting that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is considering a shock move for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Their sources believe that the the unlikely idea has been met with a lot of support from those around Laporta but everyone is aware of how much of a long shot it is. But a Messi and Ronaldo strike force on the same team would be one of the greatest footballing stories of all time.
It is believed that Barcelona’s financial predicaments have brought about the consideration of the unthinkable idea. Although Messi is yet to renew his contract, the club is positive that he will stay. They are also approaching the Ronaldo move from Juventus from a revenue perspective.
The revenue would be doubled by having the two superstars on the same team. And as part of this bold plan, Laporta plans to offer Juventus two players in exchange, and the names touted to be involved include Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho and Sergi Roberto.
The wages freed up by their departures along with the obvious revenue perks of adding a player like Ronaldo to the squad is how Barcelona plan to pay the Portuguese superstar’s salary after there has been plenty of buzz surrounding his potential departure from Juventus.
While this entire deal is implausible at best, imaginations are running wild and if there is even slight substance to the rumours, the prospect of two of the greatest footballers ever sharing a dressing room is droolworthy.
