Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona to the signing of promising 16-year-old goalkeeper Ferran Quetglas from Mallorca.

As reported by El Espanyol, Quetglas will arrive in the capital city after fulfilling his current Mallorca contract, i.e., at the beginning of the next season.

Barcelona were in the race for a long time. In fact, sporting director Mateu Alemany was personally involved in the operations, but Madrid have eventually swooped him away.

Considered to be as one of the finest young goalkeepers in Spain, Quetglas has represented his national team at the U-17 level and is only a deputy in Mallorca’s matchday squads.

The 16-year-old is set to join the famed La Fabrica of Real Madrid, and the initial plan is to assess him during his time with the Juvenil A team.

Thanks to his towering stature and extreme agility, Quetglas was being monitored by several top teams across Europe. Real Madrid, however, were always the closest one to close the deal despite Barça’s strong interest.

It is believed that Alemany tried to establish the initial communication through his strong contacts in Mallorca, but Madrid were only a tad bit quicker in convincing the youngster to join the royal white instead.

Ferran Quetglas is certainly not the first name who is about to join La Fabrica from the next season. El Espanyol says the team has also roped in 17-year-old forward Enrique Herrero from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Furthermore, it must be noted that the team also signed Vinicius Tobias from Shakhtar Donetsk. And now, the signing of one of Spain’s best young keepers will only strengthen Raul’s Castilla’s position in the Primera Division RFEF.
