RB Leipzig forward opens up on his time at Barcelona: “It’s not all rosy there”

Dani Olmo was one of Barcelona’s potential targets during the summer transfer window, as the club were actively looking for a new playmaker.
The former Dinamo Zagreb starlet, though, ended up renewing his contract at RB Leipzig, despite interest from Barcelona.
Dani Olmo opens up on Barça stint
A native of Terrassa, Dani Olmo was a product of the Barcelona youth setup and had spent many years in the academy.
Olmo left the Barcelona setup in 2014, joining the Dinamo Zagreb academy in the process.
In a recent interview, the RB Leipzig starlet opened up on his previous spell at Barça, stating (h/t Diario AS), “I was happy at Barça. In four of the six years I was there, I was top scorer, I played as a forward and winger, I was also an Under-16 and Under-17 international.”
Talking about his subsequent move to Dinamo Zagreb, the Spaniard provided reasoning, adding, “What I wanted was a sporting project in me and Dinamo gave me that.”

“When you leave Barça it’s not all rosy and in Croatia I understood it. There I became a man in every sense, both on the field and off it,” he added.
Should Barça continue to keep an eye on Olmo?
After committing to his future at RB Leipzig, Dani Olmo has enjoyed a stellar start to the new season.
The Spaniard played a key role in helping Leipzig secure the DFL Supercup title by beating Bayern. He has also been involved in three goals in three Bundesliga matches.
Barcelona, therefore, have every reason to keep an eye on Olmo’s progress at Leipzig. Xavi, in particular, likes the former Dinamo Zagreb starlet.
The attacker, too, clearly has a special place for Barcelona in his heart, but whether or not the Catalans can afford his €60 million release clause remains to be seen.
