Barcelona have seemingly managed to beat Chelsea to the signing of Raphinha from Leeds United, with an official announcement expected to be made in the next couple of days.
However, the Catalans might now be set for another battle with another European heavyweight for the signing of one of their primary targets in Jules Kounde.
Indeed, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race to sign Kounde from Sevilla this summer and have lodged enquiries over the Frenchman’s situation as they look to bolster their defence.
The 23-year-old French international has been on the radars of several top clubs this summer. But with Chelsea’s interest in him fading, Barcelona had been left as the strongest suitors.
Sevilla have been demanding €60 million for their prized asset this summer, which has been a hurdle for the Blaugrana in their pursuit of the centre-back.
However, with Xavi Hernandez insistent on signing him, the Catalans are expected to divert their focus on Kounde once the deals for Raphinha, Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski are sorted.
But, PSG have now entered the fray to sign Kounde as well. The Ligue 1 champions have launched an enquiry for the 23-year-old after hitting a roadblock in negotiations with Inter Milan for the signing of Milan Skriniar.
PSG might have the financial wherewithal to meet Sevilla’s price tag and offer Kounde a lucrative contract. However, it has been previously reported that the former Bordeaux starlet has his heart set on a move to Barcelona this summer.
It could pave the way for the Blaugrana to negotiate with Sevilla and get the deal over the line. Kounde has been a top performer in his three years in Spain and can be an asset for Barça if signed. But with PSG now joining the race, Xavi & co. might have to act swiftly.
