A report from Mundo Deportivo sheds light on the future of Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao, who is on loan at Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 22-year-old Trincao signed for the Blaugrana from SC Braga in the summer of 2020 but endured a difficult debut season in which he struggled for game-time under then-manager Ronald Koeman.

The Catalans decided to loan him out last summer, with the Portuguese international signing for Wolves on a season-long loan deal. The Premier League side have an option of making his transfer permanent at the end of the ongoing campaign.

However, the Midlands club will not be taking up that option in the summer, as per the report from Mundo Deportivo.

Trincao made a bright start to life at the Molineux and had been a regular in Bruno Lage’s side. However, his form has nosedived drastically leading to him being in and out of the starting lineup in recent months.

To date, the former Braga prodigy has 22 appearances for Wolves, managing a solitary goal and no assists. With things being as they are, the Premier League outfit have decided not to take Trincao on permanently, meaning that he will be returning to Camp Nou at the end of the season.

The report also states that Wolves are also looking for a full-time replacement for Adama Traore, who joined Barça on loan in January. Given the impact he has made since returning to Catalonia, it is expected that the Blaugrana will sign him on a permanent basis.

And, Wolves are preparing for that eventuality. With Trincao set to be released, they have identified Portuguese international Rafa Silva as a replacement candidate for Adama.

As for Trincao, it will be interesting to see whether he gets a chance at Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez next season or leaves the club.
