OGC Nice make approach for experienced Barcelona midfielder, player open to move
In an interesting turn of events, Miralem Pjanic’s future has been called into question as Santi Aouna reports that French outfit OGC Nice have made an approach to sign him.
As it turns out, after months of trying to fight for his place in the Barcelona midfield, Pjanic is open to joining Nice. He finds their project, headlined by former Borrusia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre, to be interesting.
Further, after failing to establish himself with the Catalan giants for two seasons, the Bosnian believes playing in Ligue 1 again could be a good chance for him to relaunch his career.
The report claims that Xavi does not trust Pjanic, and is more than fine with his exit. This is in direct contrast to what the manager said ahead of the Rayo Vallecano clash as part of his pre-game press conference.
Confirming that the veteran will not be leaving this summer, Xavi stated: “Pjanic has convinced me and he will stay with us.”
Not to mention, after the departure of Nico Gonzalez on loan to Valencia, Barcelona are already short of midfielders. Sergio Busquets, too, has no direct deputy in the team, and Pjanic is expected to be called upon to replace him.
In fact, after Busquets picked up a red card against Rayo Vallecano in the opening fixture of the season, Pjanic will likely get the chance to impress the Barça faithful as the lone pivot.
All said and done, Nice’s interest in the former Juventus man has not yet translated into an official offer. His salary, quoted to be around €6.5 million, is a stumbling point for the French team, who already need to offload players as quick as possible.
