Official: Raphinha’s Brazil eliminated from the 2022 World Cup against Croatia
The master of upsets, Croatia, took on Brazil in the first of the four quarter-finals today in a game that promised a lot. Through the 90 minutes, Dominik Livakovic kept Brazil quiet, making nine saves.
The game eventually went to extra-time, where Neymar broke the deadlock in the 105th minute with a stunning finish going around the keeper.
Unfortunately, it was not enough for the favourites to go through as Bruno Petkovic found the net through a deflected shot in the box in the 177th minute.
Brazil could only do so much in the rest of the three minutes, and the game headed to penalties. Coming off an incredible penalty shoot-out win against Japan, Luka Modric’s men repeated their exploits knocking Brazil out of the tournament.
Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed their respective penalties, while Casemiro and Pedro scored theirs. Meanwhile, Croatia scored all four of their spot kicks, including one from captain Modric.
Neymar did not get the chance to hit a penalty, as he was presumably waiting for the fifth (winning penalty).
