Barcelona youth prodigy Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until the summer of 2026, the Blaugrana have confirmed.

One of the most exciting young talents in the game, Yamal made his first-team breakthrough towards the end of the last season and has since made huge strides forward.

Having turned 16 during the summer, the young forward became eligible to sign his first professional contract.

And despite overtures from Manchester City, Yamal always wished to stay and continue at Barcelona and had agreed on a contract extension before the pre-season tour of the USA.

The contract has now been signed and made official, with Yamal renewing for three years until 2026 – the maximum allowed for underage players as per regulations.

“FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached an agreement on a new contract binding the player to the club until 30 June 2026, with the buyout clause set at one billion euros,” the official statement read.

The forward signed the contract today morning at an event in the offices at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper attended by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, sporting director Deco and youth football director Joan Soler.

The 16-year-old wonderkid’s new deal also comes with a mammoth €1 billion release clause.

While Yamal’s new contract runs until 2026, reports have previously suggested that there is already a roadmap in place to extend Yamal’s contract until 2030 once he turns 18 years old.
