Official: Barcelona target Bernardo Silva renews contract with Man City until 2026

At this point, it is no secret that Bernardo Silva is a player that Barcelona admire greatly and have aspired to sign for a long time.
Indeed, the Blaugrana made an attempt to sign the Portuguese international in each of the last two summer windows and once again expressed an interest in him this year as well.
Much like the past, though, Barça could not pull off Silva’s signing, due to the financial situation at the club.
Reports over the summer have claimed that the Manchester City superstar was open to joining the La Liga champions this summer.
But, the Catalans could not muster up the finances needed to complete the signing, with their loan-to-buy offer worth €50 million reportedly being shot down by City.
Bernardo Silva signs new contract with Man City
With the doors for a move to Barcelona closing, Silva decided to sign a new contract with Manchester City.
And now, the Premier League and European champions have officially confirmed that the 28-year-old has indeed penned a new deal until 2026.
“Bernardo Silva has signed a new Manchester City contract, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2026,” the official statement read.
With Silva renewing until 2026, any chances of a move to Barcelona next year have also taken a hit as it would take a monumental fee to lure him away from the Etihad Stadium.
While Silva might have slipped out of their hands, the Blaugrana are close to succeeding in their pursuit of his City and Portugal teammate, Joao Cancelo, who will be arriving this week.
