In an official statement issued by the club, FC Barcelona have confirmed that they will not be attending the Extraordinary General Assembly called by La Liga in Dubai next week.

The meeting, described as ‘urgent’ by La Liga, is required to be attended by all clubs, with discussions regarding amendments to the Statutes and General Regulations of La Liga being on the agenda.

However, Barcelona have refused to attend the assembly, with the official statement from the club reading as follows:

“In the aforementioned Extraordinary General Assembly, extremely relevant business is on the agenda concerning the modification of Statutes and General Regulations of La Liga that requires prior debate and a more extensive and participatory analysis to come to the best consensus that such a wide-ranging reform deserves.

“FC Barcelona’s position has always been that of reaching consensual agreements after having examined the issue coherently and respecting all positions.”

Things have been rough between Barcelona and La Liga, with the club believing that the league president, Javier Tebas, is always on the lookout to make things difficult for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently confirmed that the club could not make any new signings in January while the recent changes to the Fair Play rules could impact the club’s transfer plans going forward as well.

A report from SPORT earlier today mentioned that Barça have grown fed up with Tebas and have now decided not to participate in the General Assembly scheduled for next week in Dubai.

“For that reason, we do not believe it is the right time to travel to Dubai for an event that could well take place at La Liga’s headquarters, and once again we show our opposition to any form of action that we consider damaging to the rights and interests of FC Barcelona,” the statement from the club added.

Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid have also confirmed that they will not be participating in the Assembly either.
