In what could be a major blow, FC Barcelona have confirmed that Pedri has sustained a thigh injury in training today.

“Pedri has injured his right rectus anterior thigh. He is out and his evolution will determine his availability,” the official statement from the club read.

Building on that, journalist Toni Juanmarti has reported that the 20-year-old midfield prodigy could be out for several weeks, which does not bode well for the Blaugrana.

Pedri is one of the most important players for Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona and was key to the club’s first win of the season against Cadiz last week, scoring a goal.

The Spanish international has grown into the beating heart of this Barcelona team and his absence will come as a major blow to the Blaugrana.

As per the update from Juanmarti, Pedri could be looking at more than a month out, which would put his possible return date against Mallorca in the last week of September or against Sevilla in early October.

With the Blaugrana having already lost Ronald Araujo to an injury, the absence of another pivotal player in Pedri is a disappointing development.

The 20-year-old has had problems with injuries in the past as well, but had worked hard on himself physically during the off-season to leave the fitness problems behind.

However, just a couple of weeks into the campaign, he has fallen prey to yet another injury and as such, it is unlikely that Barcelona will take any risk with his recovery and potential return to action.
