Having secured the services of Vitor Roque back in the summer transfer window itself, FC Barcelona will welcome the 18-year-old striker into the squad in January.

Indeed, Athletico Paranaense, his current club, have officially confirmed that their upcoming game against Santos FC will be Roque’s last appearance at their home stadium, Ligga Arena, before he moves to Europe.

“The last act alongside the Athletico fans. The game against Santos will be Vitor Roque’s last at the Ligga Arena before he leaves for Europe,” the statement read.

Barcelona secured Roque’s signing from Athletico back in the summer in a deal worth €30 million plus another €31 million in add-ons.

The young forward signed a long-term contract with the Blaugrana until 2031, but had to continue in Brazil as the Catalans were dealing with Financial Fair Play issues and were not in a position to register him.

But, the idea had always been to bring the teenager into the fold in January rather than waiting until next summer.

And, Gavi’s recent ACL injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the season, opened the way for Barcelona to incorporate Roque and register him in La Liga in January.

As things stand, the plan is for the 18-year-old to join his new teammates on December 28, after the Christmas break, so that he can be ready to make his debut against Las Palmas on January 4.

For now, Roque still has two more games to play for Athletico – the one at home vs Santos before taking on Cuiaba on December 6 away from home.
