Speaking in an exclusive interview with Fanatik, Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic has opened up on his second shot at coming good at Camp Nou and the opportunity to play under a legend like Xavi Hernandez.

Pjanic joined Barcelona in the summer of 2020 but endured a difficult debut campaign, struggling to get regular game-time under then-manager Ronald Koeman.

The Bosnian international was loaned out to Turkish giants Besiktas last summer, where he enjoyed a decent enough spell. Back at Barça this summer, the midfielder was widely expected to leave the club permanently.

However, the former Juventus and AS Roma ace has made a solid impression on manager Xavi, so much so that the Catalans are now considering keeping Pjanic at the club and utilising him as a backup to club captain Sergio Busquets in the pivot position in midfield.

Pjanic has spoken about his struggles in the past couple of seasons, stating that he is now ready to show his real self to the fans.

“In the last two years, I have struggled with injuries, covid-19, and went out on loan. But now it’s different. I am convinced that I can get back to my best. I’ve been working with a physical trainer this summer,” he said.

“It’s time to show the fans the old Pjanic,” the veteran midfielder added.

Pjanic also spoke about the opportunity to work under Xavi, who is giving him a second shot at turning things around at Barça.

“I have a contract at Barça until 2024. I hope this will be a great season for us. I’m excited to work under Xavi,” Pjanic said.

“Xavi has always been a role model midfielder for me. I would follow him with admiration. For me, he is one of the best midfielders of all time in the world. Working with him is very special. A good season awaits us,” he added.

Pjanic also touched upon the signing of Robert Lewandowski, stating that he adds a lot of quality to an already loaded attacking unit.

“He is the best goalscorer in the world. Apart from that, we have very good players in the attacking line. The team has not had a good time in terms of success in the past two seasons. We want to be top of the league at the end of this season,” the midfielder said.
