The pair have been subject to plenty of speculation regarding their contract renewals. Laporta had stated that Dembele is a crucial part of the club’s future and thus deserves special treatment.’

Lionel Messi of course has been at the centre of all the headlines ever since the end of the 19-20 season. After the infamous burofax saga, he had publicly stated his desire to leave the club. However, this season there may yet be hope for Barcelona fans. While the Argentine’s contract expires on the 30th of June, he has stated that he will wait until the season ends to decide his future.

Messi, also voted for the first time ever in the club’s presidential elections and reportedly congratulated Joan Laporta after he won the presidency. The elections will definitely play a big part in Messi’s continuity and Laporta is confident he can convince the superstar to stay at the club.

With Dembele and Messi showing their affection towards Laporta, it is tough to rule out a contract renewal. It is also a positive sign ahead of the return leg where Barcelona will attempt to overturn a near-impossible 1-4 deficit.
